Shampoo
Skin is the largest organ of your body and skin (dermal) absorption is a major route of exposure for toxic substances, beside inhalation, ingestion and injection.

Shampoo is used on a daily basis and is the most used hair product.

Are you slowly poisoning yourself?

Most chemicals used in shampoo have never been tested or assessed for safety or adequately assessed for safety by either the federal government or the manufacturers.

"Companies are free to use almost any ingredient they choose in personal care products, with no proof of safety required. Consumers are not properly warned of possible dangers because of a "lack of standards and labeling loopholes," said Jane Houlihan, director of research for the Environmental Working Group in a report on the dangers of cosmetics and personal care products to a House subcommittee.

A study by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health showed that there are 884 toxic chemicals in personal care products. 778 cause acute toxic affect - meaning that they can cause a headache, a rash, or they make you sick in some way right away.
146 of these chemicals can cause tumors (some are not cancers, but some of them are).
314 can cause developmental abnormalities. This means that if you put it on yourself when you are pregnant, your baby might not be normal. When a child's nervous system and brain is developing, some of these chemicals could adversely affect that. Some of these chemicals, if you just breath the vapors, they can make a baby sick.

Certain chemicals known to cause cancer in humans simply should not be in our products!
In fact, the European Union has banned more than 1,000 ingredients considered unsafe for use in cosmetics to date. The FDA on the other hand, has banned only nine.

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), an ingredient in 90% of commercial shampoos and conditioners, corrodes the hair follicle and impedes hair growth.
Sodium lauryl sulfate has been blamed for many cases of premature hair loss. It takes hair longer to grow when affected by SLS. SLS is found in car wash soap, engine degreaser, toothpaste, lotions, and garage floor cleaners.
Exposure to SLS can lead to a burning sensation, coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, headache, nausea, and vomiting, according to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of the U.S. government.
SLS penetrates your eyes, brain, liver, and remains there long-term. It degenerates cell membranes because it is a mutagen that changes genetic information in your cells and damage your immune system.
It can cause blindness (scientific studies have proven that this compound damages protein formation in the eye tissue) and can lead to cataract formation.

But there are many other toxic chemicals in shampoo. See the top ingredients in shampoo to avoid.

Say No to Traditional Shampoo

Even shampoo that is labeled organic still has many harmful chemicals.
